Panoramic viewpoints in Andorra: the best route

02 November 2026
Panoramic viewpoints in Andorra: Roc del Quer, Tristaina Solar Viewpoint and the Tibetan bridge, with access, season and winter ideas.

Discover the best route of panoramic viewpoints in Andorra

Andorra is best understood from above. Within a few kilometres you go from narrow valleys to glacial cirques, and several spots around the country have been equipped to take them in: glass platforms, a metal ring at 2,701 m and a 603 m suspension bridge. This route of panoramic viewpoints in Andorra sets out the ones worth the trip, with practical details for planning them from Hotel Grau Roig, in the Grau Roig sector of Grandvalira and listed in the MICHELIN Guide.

It is not an official route with a single line on the map, but a selection you can spread over one or several days. Most involve a drive and a short walk.

What you need to know before setting off

  • Weather: nearly all of them depend on it. A day of low cloud can leave you with no view.
  • Season: Roc del Quer is open all year; high-mountain access, such as Tristaina, runs by season.
  • Footwear: even the short approaches involve some climbing or descent. Wear comfortable shoes and take a warm layer.

Based at the hotel

Back at the hotel you have the spa, with a heated pool, sauna and Turkish bath, open from 10.00 to 21.00. For dinner there is La Vaquería, El Teatro del Vino or La Marmita. If you would like to eat out on the mountain, the hotel website lists the picnic among the activities you can enquire about.

Essential viewpoints in Andorra: what not to miss

Roc del Quer viewpoint

This is the best known in Canillo. It opened in 2016 and its walkway measures 20 m: 8 on solid ground and 12 suspended in the air, with a section of transparent glass. At the far end you meet the sculpture of a thinker by Miguel Ángel González. Below lie the Montaup and Valira d’Orient valleys, green in summer and white in winter, and panels explain the landscape and how the mountains were formed.

It is at km 6.5 of the CS-240, the Coll d’Ordino road. Just before it, on the left, there is a large car park and a bar. From there you walk about 400 m, around 10 minutes and 70 m downhill, passing the Self-generating Structures by Jorge Dubon (1991). Admission is charged and it is open every day of the year, weather permitting; prices and the calendar are at ponttibetacanillo.com.

Canillo Tibetan bridge

It is not strictly a viewpoint, but it feels like standing on one that moves. It is 603 m long, 1 m wide and up to 158 m above the valley. It shares a website with Roc del Quer, so you can check both at once. If you are nervous of heights, start with the viewpoint.

Tristaina Solar Viewpoint

This is the country’s other great viewpoint. It stands on Peyreguils peak at 2,701 m, in the Tristaina cirque (Ordino Arcalís). It is a circular metal structure, 25 m in diameter, suspended in mid-air, from which you can see the Tristaina lakes, the Ordino valley, the nearby peaks and France. According to the local press, it has received more than 460,000 visitors since 2021.

It runs by season and its calendar changes every year, so confirm with Ordino Arcalís on +376 891 820. If you are there from 6 to 8 August, locals talk about an alignment: the rising sun passes through the hole in Pic d’Arcalís.

Roca de la Sabina and Coll de la Botella

In La Massana, these two viewpoints have a different appeal: they are good places to look at the night sky. Roca de la Sabina is in Arinsal and Coll de la Botella in Pal. The latter hosts stargazing activities in both summer and winter. We cover this in our astronomical journey through Andorra’s skies.

How to plan your visit to Andorra’s panoramic viewpoints

The most practical approach is to group them by area, because each valley needs its own road.

A day in Canillo and Ordino

Start with Roc del Quer and combine it with the Tibetan bridge if you feel up to it. Then continue over the Coll d’Ordino and drop down to Ordino, where you can have lunch and visit Casa d’Areny-Plandolit. This itinerary also works well in winter, unless the pass is difficult: always check road conditions.

A day in Ordino Arcalís

Save this one for summer. The Tristaina gondola covers 1,600 m in about 10 minutes, with glass-floored cabins, and ends at Coma d’Arcalís. The route through the glacial cirque starts at La Coma: the resort’s page mentions about 3 hours and 4.5 km. Visit Andorra gives the Estanys de Tristaina route as 4.39 km, 210 m of ascent and moderate difficulty, with 40 minutes to the first lake.

An evening in La Massana

For the night-time viewpoints, phone the La Massana tourist office (+376 835 693). They will tell you which outings are running on your dates and how to book.

Tips and recommendations for enjoying the viewpoint route in Andorra

Choose your time carefully

If you plan to take photos, check the forecast the night before and avoid the cloudy hours. In our photography routes through Andorra you will find more locations and angles.

What to do in winter

Snow does not close every viewpoint. Roc del Quer stays open if the weather allows, and that is when the valleys turn white. From 1 December, on Fridays, Saturdays and public holidays, there are night-time snowshoe outings up to Coll de la Botella. And you do not need to leave Grandvalira for a view: if you ski, every chairlift is a moving viewpoint. At the hotel you can ask about snowshoeing, mushing, snowmobiles and ski touring.

Take the gondola if you would rather not walk

The Funicamp, about 6 km long, links Encamp with Solanelles at 2,502 m. It is a comfortable way to gain height. Check its calendar, as it changes between seasons.

Take the basics

Water, a warm layer and sunglasses, even in summer. The weather changes fast at altitude, and on an exposed viewpoint you notice the wind.

Hiking routes and access to the best viewpoints in Andorra

If you would rather earn the view on foot, you have options very close to the hotel and others further away. Look at our guide to hiking routes in Andorra before choosing.

The Pessons lakes, from Grau Roig

The official route to the Estanys de Pessons starts from the El Cubil car park in Grau Roig and passes lakes such as Primer, Rodó, Meligar and Les Fonts. It is 5.95 km long with 707 m of ascent, and is rated difficult, taking 3 to 6 hours depending on the route. This is the great panorama right on your doorstep.

Tristaina on foot

The Tristaina lakes are the natural companion to the Solar Viewpoint. Bear in mind the difficulty and the gondola calendar.

Comapedrosa, the roof of the country

If you want the highest point, Comapedrosa reaches 2,942 m. It is Andorra’s summit and lies in La Massana, inside its natural park. It calls for different preparation: this is a mountain ascent, not a stroll with a view.

  • Easy: Roc del Quer.
  • For those unafraid of heights: the Tibetan bridge and the Solar Viewpoint.
  • Demanding: Pessons and Comapedrosa.
  • At night: Coll de la Botella and Roca de la Sabina.
