Helicopter routes over the Andorran Pyrenees
Real scenic flights: operators, duration and practical tips
Explore the best helicopter routes over the Andorran Pyrenees
Helicopter routes over the Andorran Pyrenees are a quick way to understand the country: in 10 or 20 minutes you see how the valleys, villages, ski areas and lakes fit together, something that would take days on foot. Hotel Grau Roig, in the Grau Roig sector of Grandvalira, includes helicopter flights among its mountain activities. The hotel appears in the MICHELIN Guide, with one Key.
The Pyrenees from another perspective
Andorra is a mountain country, and you notice that from the air. Slopes fall away into the valleys, villages cluster on the floor and, above the tree line, glacial cirques and lakes appear. If you love landscape, a short flight gives you a mental map for the rest of your stay.
Who flies
Scenic flights leave from La Massana with operators such as Heliand, based in that parish, which runs sightseeing flights, airport transfers and on-demand charters. It also works in hard-to-reach areas and with ski resorts when needed. A professional pilot is at the controls: you just sit and look.
What goes well with a flight
It pairs nicely with everything else up here: the spa, the hotel’s restaurants and, depending on the season, skiing or hiking. The hotel has mountain guides who adapt routes to all levels and types of visitor, in case you feel like exploring on foot what you have just seen.
A new heliport
In June 2026 Andorra opened the La Caubella national heliport in La Massana, operating 24 hours a day. It measures 100 by 20 metres, with two landing zones, a hangar for seven helicopters and a passenger terminal, and it moves operations away from built-up areas. It also serves emergencies and high-mountain rescues.
What can you expect from a helicopter route over the Andorran Pyrenees?
A helicopter route over the Andorran Pyrenees is short and intense. It is worth knowing exactly what you are booking so that you arrive with the right expectations.
Duration and route
Heliand offers flights of 10, 15 or 20 minutes over La Massana, the Pal ski area and the Forçats lakes, among other places. These details are published on the activity platform Yumping. The exact route depends on the time you choose and on the conditions that day, so confirm it when booking.
Seats and price
The published offer is for a minimum of 4 and a maximum of 5 people, with exclusive use of the aircraft, starting from 660 euros. If there are only two of you, ask the operator directly what options exist. Prices may change, so confirm them before committing.
What it is like on board
Scenic flights require no experience at all. Follow the safety instructions you are given before boarding and use the time to look around. For photos, bring your phone or a light camera with a strap, and dark clothes if you can, as they cut reflections in the glass.
What you see
Peaks, valleys and lakes, with no promises beyond that. Andorra has no active glaciers to fly over, but it does have a landscape shaped by them: cirques, basins and U-shaped valleys such as the Incles valley.
Tour packages: helicopter routes around Andorra
There are two sensible ways to organise it: as a stand-alone flight or as part of a day’s plan. As it is brief, it leaves room for much more.
A day with a morning flight
Early hours usually give good light and visibility for seeing the terrain. If you book for mid-morning, you can drive down from Grau Roig to La Massana, fly and stay for lunch in the area, or carry on towards Ordino to visit the Miniature Museum.
A flight and lakes on foot
Another option is to see the lakes from above first and then walk to one of them. From the Grau Roig car park you can set off on the route to the Pessons lakes: 5.95 kilometres and 707 metres of ascent, calling for good fitness, or a guide if you have no mountain experience.
A flight and wellness
If you prefer a quieter day, head down for your flight in the morning and come back in time for the spa, open from 10 am to 9 pm, with a heated pool, hydromassage, sauna and Turkish bath. For dinner, El Teatro del Vino has a cellar of more than 300 labels.
- Scenic flight of 10 to 20 minutes
- Lunch in the valley or back at the hotel
- An afternoon at the spa or a short walk
Transfers
Heliand also runs on-demand flights and airport transfers. However, although La Caubella is now running, regular international commercial flights do not yet exist, as they depend on resolving border controls. For any transfer, speak to the operator.
Unique experiences: tailor your helicopter route over the Pyrenees
Tailoring a helicopter route means, in practice, talking to the operator about what you want to see and how much time you have. These are the questions worth asking.
What to ask for
If you are interested in something specific, say so when booking: the Pal sector, the Forçats lakes, a ski area or the overall lie of the land. The pilot will decide according to air traffic and weather, and a good operator will tell you frankly what is feasible in the minutes you have paid for.
Itineraries and rules
Andorra is a small country and routes follow aviation rules. Twenty minutes is plenty for scenery, but not for landing wherever you please: landings away from a heliport are not something to take for granted. If you want something out of the ordinary, ask first.
Winter: flying over the snow
From November to April, the country looks different. The hotel’s website mentions scenic flights over the principality and heli-skiing among its snow experiences, for off-piste descents from a Pyrenean summit. If you ski to a good standard, read our article on heli-skiing in Andorra. On clear days, seeing the Grandvalira slopes and the snowy peaks from the air is another way to grasp its 215 kilometres of pistes.
Other high-altitude activities
If you like heights but prefer your feet on the ground, the hotel’s website also lists via ferrata, climbing and outings with mountain guides, including nights in mountain huts. And in summer, a stay right on the slopes becomes a very convenient starting point for setting out on foot.
Practical tips for your first helicopter route over the Andorran Pyrenees
If this is your first flight, these tips will help you get the most from it.
Book ahead and stay flexible
Contact the operator in advance. Heliand can be reached on (+376) 737 271 and at heliand@heliand.com. Ask for the exact departure point and what happens if the weather forces a cancellation. In the mountains, weather changes fast.
Choose the day well
Check the forecast at meteo.ad. A clear day makes all the difference. And if you are coming by car in winter, look at mobilitat.ad before heading down too: from 1 November to 15 May, special equipment is compulsory on the entire road network.
What to bring
Comfortable layers, closed shoes and sunglasses. Ask the operator about weight and luggage limits, especially if you are carrying a rucksack or ski gear. The platform listing the offer gives no minimum age or maximum weight.
Safety
Before boarding, listen to the pilot’s instructions and follow them to the letter, especially when approaching or leaving the aircraft. Hold on to caps and scarves, and do not move around the landing area unless you are told to.
Photos
Bring your camera or phone fully charged and have it ready before take-off. Avoid the flash and hold the lens close to the glass to reduce reflections. On such a short flight, it is also worth putting the phone away for a while and simply looking.
Afterwards
Back at the hotel, you can book one of the massages at the spa or simply have a drink at the Copper Bar and go through the day’s photos.
