Snowmobiling in Andorra: requirements, season and how to book
Practical details for booking your ride through the Grau Roig forests
Snowmobiling in Andorra is one of the most sought-after winter activities, and the Grau Roig sector is the natural place to try it. Snowy forests, a guide leading the way and the option of driving yourself: no skiing experience is required. This page brings together everything you need to book with confidence: requirements, season, what to bring and what happens if the weather changes. If you would rather compare routes, we go into detail in our guide to snowmobile routes around Grau Roig.
Who can get on a snowmobile
Snow activities differ by age, so it is worth checking before you book. Conditions depend on the operator and the type of outing.
To drive
The operator RocRoi, which operates in Grau Roig, sets the minimum driving age at 18 and does not require previous experience. Its general page states that at that age you can drive the snowmobile without a driving licence. If you book with another company, confirm this point when you reserve. Visit Andorra also presents the activity as aimed at over-18s.
To ride as a passenger
Younger children can enjoy the experience too, always with an adult. RocRoi accepts passengers from age 5; Visit Andorra mentions 10-minute children’s rides from age 6. The figure varies with the type of outing, so ask about your child’s exact age.
For children who want to drive
There is a mini circuit for children aged 3 to 11, who ride on their own, in the Kids Forest area of Grau Roig. It pairs well with a day at the children’s ski school.
What exactly you are booking
In Andorra, the mountain resorts law limits motorised traffic on the ski area in winter to activities run by the resort or its concessionaires. In practice, you always head out on an organised activity along an authorised route.
Options range from 15 minutes on a double snowmobile to 2 hours, with outings by day, at sunset and at night. Night rides suit anyone who wants to see the mountain differently, under clear skies or a full moon when conditions allow: according to RocRoi, sunset rides start around 17:30-18:00 and night departures between 18:00 and 20:00, depending on the season and the snow.
What is usually included
RocRoi includes a qualified guide, helmet, parking and third-party liability insurance. Accident insurance is bought separately at the centre. If you book a different option or use another operator, check these conditions.
Season and bad weather
This is a winter activity and it depends on the snow. The ski season in Andorra usually runs from November to April, although the dates of each outing are shown in the operator’s calendar. Book ahead for Christmas, Easter and weekends.
Outings can be changed or postponed for safety reasons in bad weather or when snow is scarce. With RocRoi, cancellation with a full refund is possible up to 5 days in advance, and up to 48 hours in advance you can change the date or request a voucher. If you are driving here, check the road conditions first.
What to bring and where it is
Wear ski or winter clothing, ski gloves, goggles or sunglasses and snow or walking boots. On daytime outings, add sunscreen.
If you book with RocRoi, the meeting point is its activity centre in Grau Roig: park at the Cubil car park and look for the beige yurt, where you check in. You are asked to arrive 15 minutes before departure.
