When to ski in Grandvalira in the 2026-27 season
Dates, crowds and snow, month by month, to choose the right week
To ski Grandvalira in the 2026-27 season you have four months to choose from: the resort plans to open on 4 December 2026 and close on 4 April 2027, always subject to snow and weather. If you want the quietest slopes, the second half of January and the first week of February are the most sensible window. If you prefer long days and a spring atmosphere, aim for the second and third weeks of March. Christmas and Epiphany remain the busiest time and call for booking well in advance.
This assessment draws on three verifiable sources: the resort’s official calendar, the school holidays of the markets that matter most to Andorra, and the figures from last Christmas. There is no public week-by-week attendance data, so treat it as a planning guide rather than a guarantee.
The 2026-27 season calendar at a glance
- 4 to 8 December: opening and the Spanish Immaculate Conception long weekend, with as much terrain as the snowfall allows.
- 9 to 18 December: the days before the holidays, usually calmer.
- 19 December to 6 January: Christmas, New Year’s Eve and Epiphany, the period of peak demand.
- 7 January to 5 February: the quietest stretch, in the depths of winter.
- 6 February to 8 March: French school holidays, staggered by zone.
- 9 to 25 March: more daylight before Easter.
- 26 March to 4 April: Easter and the final days of the season.
General slope hours run from 9:00 to 17:00. Outside those hours you may only ski on the sections open for night skiing, which vary according to the sector and the weather.
December: opening and the run-up to the holidays
The Immaculate Conception long weekend
In 2026 the opening falls on a Friday and leads into a very appealing long weekend, with Sunday 6 and Tuesday 8 December as public holidays in Spain. It has all the charm of a new season, along with the uncertainty of the first few weeks: the kilometres available depend entirely on snowfall and on temperatures cold enough to make snow. Before committing to these dates, check the slope status and bear in mind that not every sector may be linked.
The two weeks before Christmas
After the long weekend, demand tends to ease until the holidays. It is a rewarding time for anyone who values calm, especially midweek, although the open terrain still depends on what each winter brings. As a guide, a week before Christmas 2025 Grandvalira expected to have 125 km open, a high figure for that date that will not necessarily be repeated.
Christmas, New Year’s Eve and Epiphany: peak demand
French school holidays begin on 19 December 2026 and end on 4 January 2027, and Spanish families tend to join from around the same dates, with Epiphany as the natural close. Last season’s figures show why it pays to plan ahead: between 24 December 2025 and 6 January 2026, Andorra’s resorts recorded more than 336,000 skier days. The peak day was 29 December, with 25,412 skiers in Grandvalira alone.
In return, this is when the mountain is at its liveliest: last year brought torchlight descents in Soldeu and Pas de la Casa, and an average of more than 190 km open in Grandvalira. If these are your dates, book as early as you can and read our guide to Christmas and New Year in Grandvalira. To avoid the busiest hours, start early and save the crossings between sectors for first thing in the morning.
January and early February: the most serene option
From 7 January the holiday rush subsides and what we consider the best period begins for anyone who puts skiing above all else. It is the heart of winter, with shorter, colder days than in March, and the pressure of school holidays disappears until 6 February, when the first French zone begins its break.
If you have the choice, arriving and leaving midweek will give you the clearest slopes of this period. Long weekends and ordinary weekends can feel quite different, as Andorra also draws visitors from nearby. It is a fine moment to explore the ski area at leisure or try sectors you do not yet know, and to give the afternoon over to rest. At the hotel, the spa and the restaurants round off a cold day beautifully.
February and early March: the French holidays
The official French calendar for 2027 staggers the winter holidays as follows:
- Zone C: 6 to 22 February.
- Zone A: 13 February to 1 March.
- Zone B: 20 February to 8 March.
All three overlap between 20 and 22 February, so on paper that long weekend is the busiest of the period. These weeks have good snow potential, but it is wise to book well ahead, particularly if you are drawn to the sectors nearest the French border.
There is also a major date for the diary: the women’s Alpine Ski World Cup comes to Soldeu on 6 and 7 March 2027, with giant slalom and slalom on the Avet piste. It is a great opportunity to watch top-level racing live, although demand for accommodation in the area is likely to rise. We have not yet been able to confirm any published details of public access or timings.
March: light, sunshine and spring skiing
From 9 to 25 March another very attractive window opens, with the French winter holidays over and Easter yet to come. The days are longer and the temperatures, normally milder, invite you to linger over lunch on a terrace.
The snow changes over the course of the day: it tends to be firmer early on and softer as the day goes by. Setting off early and seeking out the slopes that have just caught the sun generally gives the best skiing. Altitude also helps, as the highest points of several sectors reach around 2,500 to 2,600 metres. Check the snow report before booking, because no two springs are alike.
Easter: the close of the season
In 2027 Easter Sunday falls on 28 March, very close to the planned end of the season on 4 April. It is a convenient date in the calendar, which is why it concentrates demand, but its quality will depend on how the snow has held up by late March. The open terrain may be smaller than in midwinter, so look at the conditions before travelling and confirm the closing dates if you intend to ski the very last days.
Which dates to choose for your trip
- Skiers looking for quiet slopes: mid-January to early February, midweek.
- Couples: late January, to combine skiing and spa, or March, to enjoy more daylight.
- Families with school-age children: Christmas or Easter, booked well ahead.
- Racing enthusiasts: the weekend of 6 and 7 March.
How to organise your booking
For key dates, secure your accommodation first and then arrange the rest of the trip. The day pass can be bought online in advance, and the Mobile Pass is activated from the official app with no physical card to collect, which spares you the ticket office on a high-season morning. To understand the options, see our guide to ski passes in Andorra.
Location also changes the experience of any given week. Staying right on the slopes cuts out the transfers and lets you set off as soon as the lifts open. Hotel Grau Roig, featured in the MICHELIN Guide, stands within the sector of the same name, and you can enquire directly about its rooms for the dates you have in mind. If you are torn between areas, our comparison of where to stay in Grandvalira will help you decide.
Opening and closing dates may change depending on the snow. Before travelling, check the official Grandvalira information.
