The Grandvalira Mobile Pass is the digital ski pass from Grandvalira Resorts: it sits on your phone, inside the official app, and gets you onto the lifts without a physical card. It works over Bluetooth, needs an internet connection only for linking, and is activated on the day you ski. Here is which passes qualify, what your phone needs and how to have everything ready before you reach the first chairlift.

\nAccording to Grandvalira’s official page, the format is available for the following products:
\nThe addition of the two season passes is what is new this winter. The Mobile Pass made its debut last year with day passes and in 2026-27 is being offered in season format for the first time. The Grandvalira season is scheduled from 4 December 2026 to 4 April 2027, snow conditions permitting.
\nIf your stay runs beyond three days or you need another type of pass, check which formats are available when you buy: the official page lists no further products.
\nThe requirements are few, but they are worth reviewing before you buy, particularly if you are travelling with others:
\nThat last point prevents the most predictable problem. Book with a work address, open the app with your personal one, and the pass will not be where you expect to find it. Decide which address you will use before paying, and keep to it throughout.
\nThere are two routes, and the difference lies in how the pass reaches the app.
\nYou buy it from the Mobile Pass page itself, using the purchase button. When you open the app with the email used for the purchase, the pass appears in the Mobile Pass section. This is the most convenient option if you want to leave home with everything arranged and avoid the ticket office on arrival.
\nYou can also buy it at the resort’s ticket offices or self-service machines. In that case you receive one QR code per Mobile Pass, which you scan with the app to activate it.
\nThe process has two distinct stages: linking, which you can do in advance, and activation, which belongs to the ski day itself.
\nOnce linked and activated, the Mobile Pass works offline, so a lack of coverage at altitude should not affect your access to the lifts.
\nWe suggest linking the pass the evening before, with a good connection and no hurry, and leaving only the activation for the morning. The first lift of the day then becomes a formality rather than a task still to be done.
\nWhen one person buys several Mobile Passes, they all appear in that person’s app. From there, the buyer can link their own and share the others through a link or a QR code generated by the app.
\nEach recipient has three things to do: install the app, link the pass to their device and activate it on the ski day. It is not enough for the buyer to hold the passes on one phone, because each pass is tied to a single device and each skier needs their own in their pocket.
\nIn practice, this makes it sensible to share the passes out before the trip. Check, too, that younger members of the party have their own phone with Bluetooth and the app installed. If someone will not be carrying a phone on the slopes, ask at the ticket office which format suits them best.
\nThe official page sets out three conditions to bear in mind:
\nThe third calls for the most care. Take care with system updates, phone changes or app clean-ups during your ski days. If you expect to change phones during the season while holding an Andorra Pass or Nord Pass, ask Grandvalira beforehand how to proceed.
\nGrandvalira says it is installing new turnstiles with Smart Guard, a photo-based control system. It is useful to know this before you pass through them, since the pass remains personal even without a physical card.
\nThese pointers do not come from the official page but from common sense in the mountains. With your pass on your phone, the handset becomes one more piece of your kit:
\nIf your phone is lost or stops working, go to a ticket office or contact the resort. The official page does not cover this situation, so it is wise to raise the question before your trip if you will be relying on the pass for the whole season.
\nWith a Grandvalira pass, the Mobile Pass gives you access to the seven linked sectors of the ski area: Encamp, Canillo, El Tarter, Soldeu, Peretol, Grau Roig and Pas de la Casa, with 215 km of skiable terrain and 140 runs according to the resort’s website. \nThe Andorra Pass extends access to Andorra’s three resorts and 308 skiable kilometres. The Nord Pass centres on Pal Arinsal and Ordino Arcalís and includes a limited number of days in Grandvalira. Check the current terms of your pass before planning each day.
\nStaying at the foot of the slopes simplifies the routine further. Hotel Grau Roig, listed in the MICHELIN Guide, stands beside the slopes of the Grau Roig sector: you can activate your pass in your room, get ready at your leisure and start the day with your skis a step from the snow. Grandvalira has a green beginners’ area in every sector, with a gentle gradient and close to the lifts, and more than 400 instructors. With that foundation, just a few hours are enough to come down easy runs with confidence.
\nThe first day often determines whether you will end up enjoying skiing. That is why tuition deserves your closest attention, even before equipment.
\nGrandvalira’s private lessons are available in all sectors and at all levels, in blocks of two, three or four hours, with a maximum of six people per instructor. They are the best option for a beginner who values their time: the pace adapts to you, the lesson focuses on what you need and it is the recommended way to guarantee the language of instruction. If you are travelling as a couple, you can share an instructor, provided you are at a similar level.
\nA good plan is to book your lesson for the morning, when you are freshest, and leave the afternoon to practise what you have learned or to rest. Available times appear in the school’s booking system, so do not leave it until the last minute.
\nIf you want the experience with maximum comfort, Top Class offers a four-hour half day or an eight-hour full day. Grandvalira includes in this service private lockers and lounges, ski trials with leading brands and a transfer from the hotel. When you book, ask for confirmation of exactly what your option includes and in which sector.
\nGroup courses last three hours a day and bring together skiers of the same level. They have their charm if you are motivated by learning with others, although they offer less individual attention. Multi-day courses usually start on Mondays and, in Soldeu and El Tarter, on Saturdays too. Check the dates when planning your trip.
\nGrandvalira has 215 km and 140 slopes across seven sectors, including 24 green runs, the easiest of all. You can learn in any of them, but each offers a different experience:
\nFor an overview of the whole ski area, see our guide to ski slopes in Andorra. More than the sector itself, what matters on the first day is the distance between your accommodation, the school and the learning area: the less you walk in ski boots, the better. It is one of the advantages of staying at the foot of the slopes.
\nThe beginner’s pass gives access to the beginners’ areas, the gondola in the sector you are in and some lifts in that area, but not those leading to higher-level slopes. It seems the natural choice, but it comes with an important caveat: the school does not accept it for its services. To take lessons you need a day pass, a multi-day pass, the season pass or the Plus+ pass.
\nSo if you are going to book an instructor, buy a pass that is valid for the school. Lesson prices do not include the pass or equipment, although combined packages are available. You will find more information in our guide to ski passes in Andorra.
\nThere is no point buying equipment on your first trip. Grandvalira works with partner shops where you can book in advance, with bronze, silver and gold ranges and the option of upgrading to higher-end equipment in store. For those seeking the very latest, its Premium programme also mentions rental of the newest models. Even if you are a beginner, what you want is not the most demanding ski but the one best suited to your level and weight: ask the shop technician.
\nA badly fitted boot can ruin the day. Take your time trying it on, with the technical sock you intend to wear, and walk in it before you leave the shop. It should hold your heel firmly without pressing on your toes. If it bothers you during your first run, go back to the shop: there is usually a solution.
\nDress in layers: a thermal layer, a mid-layer, and a waterproof jacket and trousers. Add a helmet, goggles, good-quality gloves and technical socks, never several pairs at once. \nProgress depends on practice and aptitude, but the school itself points out that, after a few hours of lessons, you can come down green and even blue runs with greater confidence. A typical sequence would be:
\nFor this reason, a stay of three days or more lets you truly enjoy your progress. Avoid pushing yourself: fatigue tends to lead to mistakes, and it is better to stop in good time.
\nChristmas in Grandvalira combines skiing, torchlight descents, children’s events and music on the mountain, and it is the most sought-after period of the whole winter. The 2026-27 season is scheduled from 4 December to 4 April, depending on the snow, so barring the unexpected these festivities will fall squarely within it. It is wise to book accommodation as early as possible and to check the official programme before finalising your plans.
\nAn important note: at the time of writing, we have not found the official Christmas 2026-27 programme in Grandvalira’s news section. What follows is based on what has happened in recent seasons and serves as guidance rather than a confirmed calendar.
\nThese are the defining image of the season. At Christmas 2025-26, the announced programme included a torchlight descent in Soldeu on 31 December at 18:00 for advanced skiers, a children’s light descent in Soldeu on 3 January, and another torchlight descent in Pas de la Casa on 5 January, accompanied by a Three Kings parade and fireworks. The 2023-24 programme already followed a very similar pattern, which suggests a well-established tradition, although this year’s dates have yet to be confirmed.
\nLast year, Santa Claus visited snow gardens and ski schools across the Grandvalira sectors on 24 December, and on 23 December Grau Roig hosted a Kids Fest with inflatables and DJs. If you are travelling with children, these events are an excellent complement to lessons. The resort’s children’s circuits, free for skiers up to the age of 12, also offer an activity that is easy to fit into any day.
\nFor adults, the programme has revolved around DJ sessions on terraces and the L’Abarset après-ski in El Tarter, which held a New Year party that lasted until 4 am and a Brunch Electronik. There were also special dinners on the mountain, with events such as the Jazz Leon Classic Nights at Wine & Meat by Jean Leon, in Soldeu. Places at occasions like these are limited: the jazz evening sold out.
\nGeneral slope hours run from 9:00 to 17:00, but there may be more options over the festive period. Last year, Tubs, in Pas de la Casa, stayed open until 20:00 from 26 December to 5 January, as announced by the resort.
\nLast season’s figures give a clear idea of the demand. Between 24 December 2025 and 6 January 2026, Andorra’s resorts exceeded 336,000 skier days, the best figure in six years. The peak day was 29 December, with 25,412 skiers in Grandvalira. Snow was good too, with an average of more than 190 km open, a figure that depends on each winter and cannot be taken for granted.
\nIn that context, a few simple decisions make all the difference:
\nThe festivities are concentrated in a few weeks and the most sought-after accommodation is the first to fill up. There is no general deadline: if your plans are settled, the most sensible course is to book as soon as you can, especially if you need several rooms or a stay that includes New Year’s Eve.
\nThe French school holidays begin on 19 December, and the days before Christmas Eve are usually a good option for those who want a festive atmosphere ahead of the main festive dates. Christmas Day falls on a Friday, which may also attract long-weekend breaks.
\nThis is the busiest week if last year is anything to go by, when the peak day came on the 29th. It is also a very attractive option for families, because children have more activities and the mood is very festive.
\nIn 2026, New Year’s Eve falls on a Thursday and New Year’s Day on a Friday, so the holiday may stretch to Sunday 3 January. If you want to experience the torchlight descent and a special dinner, plan the day calmly: ski in the morning, keep the afternoon for rest and confirm both your table and any transport you need in advance.
\nThe French holidays end on 4 January and, traditionally, Epiphany closes the period for Spanish families. \nThe resort’s 2026-27 experiences include snowmobiles, dog sledding and snowshoeing in several sectors, as well as the Màgic Gliss and the zip wire in Canillo. These activities combine very well with ski days, weather permitting.

\nAt Christmas the criteria shift a little: the greater the crowds, the more valuable it is to stay close to the snow and not depend on the car. If the New Year’s Eve events are the centre of your trip, bear in mind where they have been held in previous editions: Soldeu for the descent on the 31st and Pas de la Casa for the one on 5 January. \nHotel Grau Roig, featured in the MICHELIN Guide, stands in the heart of the Grau Roig sector, with a spa and several restaurants. To find out about availability on these dates and whether any special offer is planned, it is best to ask the hotel directly.
\nFinally, before travelling, check the slope conditions and the resort’s final programme. It is also worth remembering that the L’Illa Carlemany stand closes on 25 December and 1 January, and that all mountain activities may change according to the weather.

The official programme sets the two runs of each day at 9:30 and 12:30. Public access conditions and transport arrangements have not been published so far, so this guide separates what is confirmed from what is worth checking before you travel.
\nFIS added Andorra to the calendar at its spring meeting in Portorož and, in July 2026, its technical staff inspected the Avet with the organising committee to approve the start points and race operations. Times may change according to the weather and the jury’s decisions, as is usual at these events, so check the programme a few days beforehand.
\nAccording to Nevasport, this will be Andorra’s seventh World Cup event, after those of 2012, 2016, 2019, 2023, 2024 and 2026. Soldeu has become such a regular fixture that David Hidalgo, head of the organising committee, describes it as an almost permanent venue on the circuit. The Avet hosted the first race, in 2012, and was part of the 2019 and 2023 Finals.
\nNevasport’s profile describes it as a black run with a vertical drop of about 416 metres, between 1,850 and 2,266 metres of altitude, an average gradient of 37% and two pronounced steep pitches separated by a gentler section. Its north-west orientation tends to leave the snow hard in the morning. The terrain is made for the technical disciplines, and much of the course can be seen from the village itself, an obvious advantage for spectators.
\nIn the giant slalom, skiers carve wider turns at greater speed: watch how they handle the change of rhythm between the steep pitches. The slalom, with its tighter gates, is a test of precision and reflexes, and it is often at its most thrilling when watched at close quarters. As both events have two runs, the excitement builds in the second, when the start order and combined times decide the standings.
\nCarles Visa, manager of the Andorran Ski Federation, named Carla Mijares, Iria Medina and Claudia García as skiers for local fans to follow. The final list of participants will be known closer to the event.
\nFor now, the official site gives no details of tickets, spectator areas or hospitality services. For these matters, it refers visitors to a contact form. Until there is official information, it is best not to assume whether access will be free or paid, or whether there will be reserved areas.
\nCheck the event website regularly and sign up to Grandvalira’s channels for updates. If you are travelling with a group, write to the organisers well in advance.
\nThe 2027 arrangements have not yet been published. A useful pointer is what the organisers did at the 2024 edition: they recommended public transport, advised those coming by car to leave it in El Tarter and laid on a free bus over the race weekend. There is no guarantee this will be repeated, but it does suggest that car access to Soldeu will be restricted.
\nThe times published on that same page are for guidance:

\nAll of Grandvalira’s sectors are connected, so in principle you can reach Soldeu on skis. It is an appealing idea if you are staying in another sector, although it depends on the state of the ski area that day and any restrictions the race imposes. Allow plenty of time and confirm which slopes and lifts are open in the morning. Do not assume that the Avet or its surroundings will be available for skiing during the event.
\nThe races fall in the middle of the season, on a weekend that will draw teams, press and fans. It is best to arrange accommodation and transfers as far ahead as possible, on flexible terms while not all the details are known.
\nThe second run starts at 12:30, which leaves much of the afternoon free. Ideally, arrive on the Thursday or Friday, ski before the races and leave on the Monday, once the departing traffic has eased. \nWatching a race calls for warmer clothing than skiing. Bring thermal layers, boots with good grip, gloves, sunglasses and sun protection. March in the Pyrenees can bring either intense sun or a storm, and you will spend hours on your feet on the snow.
\nGrau Roig is about 15 minutes by car from Soldeu, and that distance has its appeal: the calm of a setting without a residential area after a lively day in Soldeu. Hotel Grau Roig, featured in the MICHELIN Guide, is located right in the resort, and you can ask its team about transfer options for the weekend. In the evening, you can look forward to an unhurried dinner at its restaurants, or a session at the spa to warm up after the day.

\nThe resort itself presents it as the most unspoilt sector in Grandvalira. This guide brings together what you need to know to prepare your days here: the terrain, what to do besides skiing and how to get around. \nThe sector lies at around 2,100 metres and opens out between broad slopes, with the surroundings of the Pessons lakes among its most recognisable landscapes. With no town here, the experience differs from that of other parts of the resort: the rhythm is set by the snow and the light, not by traffic or shop hours.
\nIt forms part of a ski area of 215 km and 140 runs, so you can devote the day to its slopes or link up with the neighbouring sectors. The exact numbers of runs and lifts can vary from one season to the next, so it is best to check them on the official map and the slope status page.
\nThe resort states that there are runs for all levels here, which allows a group with differing experience to share the day without drifting too far apart. Data published in 2023 showed a mix of green, blue, red and black runs, with a green run in the Pessons area. Before choosing your route, check the current map to see which runs suit your level. \nThe Riberal piste is the venue for the FIS Speed Skiing World Cup, known in Spanish as Kilómetro Lanzado, a discipline in which skiers seek maximum straight-line speed. According to figures published in 2023, it is about 900 metres long with a 200-metre vertical drop. We have not yet been able to confirm any events or dates for 2026-27, so if you are interested in attending, check the official calendar before you travel.
\nGrau Roig has freeride areas and three marked ski-touring circuits. The circuits are an excellent way into ski touring on a marked route, while freeride demands training, safety equipment and a careful reading of snow conditions. Before leaving the marked runs, check the avalanche bulletin. The hotel’s website mentions guides and instructors, an option you can enquire about directly with the team.
\nThis is one of the resort’s three sectors with a snowpark: the Sunrise Park Xavi. It is a good plan for those looking for something beyond classic descents, and also a splendid distraction for teenagers with some ability.
\nChildren have Kids Forest, a circuit with obstacles and themed characters designed to improve turning and balance. The resort’s children’s circuits are free and open to skiers up to the age of 12. Its four characters, from Mona the marmot to Nae the chamois, represent different levels of progress, making for an entertaining way of measuring improvement.
\nIf you are travelling with younger children, you might consider the Imaginarium Ski School, which is listed among the hotel’s snow options, and the hotel’s Kids Club for the hours away from the slopes.
\nThe resort’s 2026-27 experiences programme includes several activities in Grau Roig:
\nThese activities usually depend on the weather and the state of the snow. Check availability in advance, especially on key dates. The hotel’s snow activities page also lists them, so you can ask for information there.
\nThe sector’s official page highlights the Llac de Pessons restaurant, by the lake, a highly recommended stop for a break with a view. On very busy days it is wise to book ahead. The choice of other establishments on the slopes may vary from one season to another, so it is worth confirming it on the resort’s website.
\nAt the end of the day, the restaurants at Hotel Grau Roig, among them La Vaquería, El Teatro del Vino and La Marmita, offer an alternative that requires no travel at all. The wine cellar holds more than 300 labels.
\nFrom Andorra la Vella it is about 25 km along the CG-2, a little over 30 minutes in normal conditions. From the French border, you arrive via the Envalira tunnel area, with Pas de la Casa as the first sector along the way. In winter, always check the road conditions and carry the appropriate equipment.
\nThe sector has a car park and, as the resort points out, you can practically ski straight from it. If you would rather not drive, the hotel mentions private chauffeured transfers on its location page, which you can ask about when booking.
\nFrom Grau Roig you can ski towards Pas de la Casa as well as towards Soldeu and the rest of the ski area. Bear in mind that a queue can form by mid-morning at the chairlift linking Grau Roig with Soldeu, so if you plan to cross, it is best to do so early. Allow plenty of time for the return too, because the slopes generally close at 17:00.
\nStaying in Grau Roig means starting the day on the snow, with no journeys or waiting to park, and enjoying the mountain once the day visitors have gone. Hotel Grau Roig, featured in the MICHELIN Guide, stands in the sector and offers rooms and a spa to unwind in after skiing.
